The Horst Görtz Institute for IT Security (HGI) was established at the Ruhr University of Bochum in 2002 with the aim of overcoming the Europe-wide shortfalls in public research into IT security. Today, thanks to its broad range of disciplines, the HGI counts among Europe’s leading institutions in the field of IT security. Particularly noteworthy is the fruitful transfer of technological knowledge that has evolved between scientists conducting cutting-edge research and a strong international network of industry partners. At present the HGI consists of 22 professors from the fields of electrical engineering, information technology, mathematics, economics, law, humanities and social sciences, as well as around 200 scientists.
